Pledge

Pledging Net Zero – Why and How

By pledging a target publicly, businesses can inspire climate action elsewhere even at the level of national governments, signal meaningful climate leadership to their consumers and the public, and hold themselves accountable to achieving a clear science-based target.

In general, pledges should* cover all gasses and all activities and scopes, as data allows; reach net zero by 2050 (or sooner for capacity and equity reasons); set interim targets; outline immediate action.

Where to make your pledge:

*These are the minimum agreed upon criteria by consensus of over 100 international leading environmental advocacy organisations, fellow net zero institutions and climate scientists, convened by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) High-level Climate Champions and the University of Oxford for the global COP 26, Race to Zero campaign.

Below you can find vetted, scientifically credible tools, reports, and frameworks to help measure emissions baselines, set, and announce a new net zero pledge.
